Frequent Questions

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic means "heal with hands" and is based on the principle that your body is a self healing organism and that healing process is controlled by your nervous system. Your spinal column protects your central nervous system and it has 24 moveable vertebra that have discs in between them to allow for movement.

Chiropractic works by removing any interference to the nervous system from misaligned vertebra or bulging discs. This allows for improved spinal range of motion and better function of the nervous system.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

An adjustment is a high velocity low amplitude (low force) thrust to correct any stress put on your nervous system from the spine. Chiropractors on average have over 500 educational credit hours on adjusting the spine. This is more than double the training on adjusting then any other health professionals.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe?

Chiropractic is among the safest healing professions. As proof, one merely can compare malpractice insurance premiums between chiropractors and other health professionals. Chiropractors' malpractice premiums are a small fraction of those for medical doctors, especially orthopedic surgeons.

In fact, it is more dangerous to take an over the counter pain reliever than it is to get a chiropractic adjustment.

Do You Treat Bulging or Herniated Discs?

Yes, more than any other low back condition. A bulging or even herniated disc (also called disc protrusion) can put stress on the spinal cord and nerve roots causing an inflammatory reaction which irritates the nerves.

Many times this causes arm or leg numbness/tingling/pain also called sciatica. Specific chiropractic disc adjustments can utilize the ligaments that surround your spine to help restore proper joint function, reduce inflammation, and many times prevent an unnecessary surgery.

Do You Treat Children?

Yes, and they respond wonderfully to treatment. I often find in a history with adults that they remember a childhood fall or trauma which started their spinal problems. If they had come to me after the incident they would have had must less spinal trouble as an adult.

It is as important to get a child's spine checked yearly as it is to get a dental check up. If a child has a misalignment that is not corrected, it is likely they will grow into a pattern of misalignment. This could lead to more childhood illnesses such as frequent colds, ear infections, allergies, asthma, early back pain, headaches, and scoliosis to name a few.
